When your home becomes a Mummy Hospital.

One of the many unexpected things that can happen is your child getting sick. Then there is also the little bumps and falls, unfortunately sometimes this may happen, especially when your child is learning how to crawl and walk. Make sure to cover any sharp corners on tables and cabinets. Also put safety locks on fridge doors. Bookcases need to be fixed to walls as well. If your child does have an injury like a minor bump remember to give them an anti inflammatory medicine such as Nurofen for Babies and Kids. This will work best to bring down any inflamed injuries quickly along with an ice or cold pack applied straight away to the affected area. See a Doctor or hospital urgently if it is a more serious injury.

Your child may suffer with a minor cold or you may think that it is something more serious. Luckily these days there are several devices that you may like to invest in to save you a trip to the Dr or a late night trip to the hospital, keeping your child safe at home is always a mothers first choice if we can manage looking after a child when they are sick.

If you dont already have one, a first aid kit in your home and prepared before your baby is born is a wise decision, even if you dont stock it up with all the goods straight away you can gradually build up what you will need, so that when there is a medical problem or emergency, you are prepared for your child in any situation.

For instance an Oximeter could save your child from a trip to the hospital by reading the oxygen levels when they have a bad cold or cough and if you suspect that it may be something else, these are a great device to have in your first kit, especially if your child suffers from frequent bronchitis or asthma when getting colds.

Allergies in children can also be another cause for illness and sometimes a stuffy nose can be confused as a cold but is actually an allergy or an allergic reaction. Children can suffer allergies from things like Mould spores, Pollen and some Foods. Allergies can start out as a stuffy nose or rash. A persistent stuffy nose if not treated can turn into a sinus infection which needs to be treated with antibiotics. If your child does have a stuffy nose and trouble breathing through their nose even after over the counter allergy treatment, seek the advice of a G.P urgently to prevent or resolve a sinus infection.

In hot dry weather babies can have trouble breathing if there is not enough humidity in the air. Sometimes the home in which you live could lack humidity too. A humidifier will help to clear a stuffy or blocked nose and I have recommended a Euky Bear - Sleeping aid Humidifier in the list of items below. If you are running a humidifier you can just use it with no essential oils, this will still be affective. If you are adding the child safe aromatherapy oil, please be careful and follow medical guidelines as aromatherapy oils should not be used for more than 30 mins at a time or all night for babies and children.

I have listed some items that I have found very helpful in these types of urgent medical situations.
